Der materielle Organism, ohne Lebenskraft gedacht, ist keiner Empfindung, keiner Thätigkeit, keiner Selbsterhaltung fähig 2); nur das immaterielle, den materiellen Organism im gesunden und kranken Zustande belebende Wesen (das Lebensprincip, die Lebenskraft) verleiht ihm alle Empfindung und bewirkt seine Lebensverrichtungen.
2) Er ist todt und, nun bloß der Macht der physischen Außenwelt unterworfen, fault er und wird wieder in seine chemischen Bestandtheile aufgelöst. |

| §10. L’organismo materiale, pensato senza forza vitale, è capace di nessuna sensazione, nessuna attività, nessuna autoconservazione 2); solo l’essere immateriale, che anima l’organismo materiale nello stato sano e malato (il principio della vita, la forza vitale) gli dà tutte le sensazioni ed effettua le sue attività vitali.
